In September 2016, the VNCI, in collaboration with freight carrier DB Cargo, published the 2nd version of the publication 'Transport of hazardous substances identifiable defects in tank wagons' in Dutch. This publication provides an accessible explanation of the many technical details and regulations for the safe transport of hazardous substances by rail.

Significance score:

Clarity:

The VNCI and DB Cargo Rail present an updated edition of the well-known reference work 'identifiable defects'. The initiators of this publication are convinced that by providing information and making use of the knowledge available in the chemical industry and rail sector ('best practices'), incidents such as so-called 'drip leaks', in which small quantities of product are released, can be kept to a minimum. Because an incident, however minor, can quickly lead to considerable social nuisance, such as the suspension of train traffic and the evacuation of stations, the benefits for local residents, the emergency services and the business community are obvious.
