Why is good Asset Management important?

Studies into the condition of the assets, including the study by the UK Health and Safety Executive (2013), the European study by More4Core (2016), the BRZO inspection studies into 'ageing' (2017/2019) and the study into the condition of the assets (2019) show the importance of good asset management in the prevention of (process) safety incidents. Attention to the integrity of process installations is a top priority in the (petro)chemical industry. It is important to monitor the condition of these assets over time in order to ensure their vitality, reliability and safety. All disciplines within a company are responsible for the integrity of the installations and for managing the consequences of ageing. This includes not only design and engineering, operations and maintenance, but also procurement and materials management and investment decisions by the finance departments.

The previously conducted study 'Zero measurement, state of the assets' showed that the ageing risk of installations is not a question of age, but of condition. And the condition can be influenced. Applying the roadmap contributes to guaranteeing safety, ensuring vitality and reliability, and maintaining and strengthening the competitiveness of the Dutch chemical and petrochemical industries.
