The energy supply in the Netherlands is going to change. But exactly how the energy transition will take shape is still unclear.
Research conducted by Berenschot, Arcadis and TNO on behalf of the Ministries of Infrastructure and Water Management and Economic Affairs and Climate shows that the volumes of hazardous substances (such as hydrogen and ammonia) needed to accelerate the energy transition could increase dramatically.
In order for these developments to proceed safely, energy transition and (environmental) safety should already have a place in policy, laws and regulations and risk mitigation measures.
