Summary

As part of the BRZO+ project Ageing, themed inspections were conducted in 2019 on three topics: 'fatigue', 'passive fire protection' and 'pressure equipment former duty of care'.

In 2019, 381 out of 405 Brzo companies were inspected. A total of 484 Brzo inspections were conducted. An inspection was conducted at 287 companies on one or more ageing themes. Where possible, the inspection team selected one installation or part of the company to inspect for the various ageing themes. In over a third of the companies, inspectors found one or more violations on ageing.

Most Brzo companies pay attention to the subject of ageing. However, there are shortcomings; for example, the inventory of equipment sensitive to ageing is not always sufficient.

Fatigue - It is clear from the inspections on the subject of fatigue that degradation due to fatigue occurs at any age of an installation and that degradation is not directly related to the age of an installation. Thus, the subject of ageing remains relevant to all installations, regardless of age. Violations were found at 26 companies.

Passive fire protection - The theme inspection on the subject of passive fire protection has ensured that this subject has been actively brought to the attention of Brzo companies and cooperating Brzo inspectors. This helps to increase industrial safety. Forty-seven violations were found at 41 companies. Most violations were found on inspection and maintenance and the absence of passive fire protection.

Pressure equipment - About a third of the companies inspected on the subject of pressure equipment previously subject to the duty of care were found to have made insufficient efforts to identify which inspection regime applies to the pressure equipment in use. Serious abuses were not found, but the results show that more attention to the regulations on pressure equipment is required. Violations were found at 59 companies.
