On Thursday 10 June, Safety Delta Netherlands (SDN) organised an interactive webinar on the current state of affairs and progress regarding process safety. There were 23 participants from government, industry and science. This document contains a short report of the meeting.

Report

Safety Delta Nederland stands for finding, connecting and innovating in (process) safety.

Our ambition is for Dutch (petro)chemicals to be among the safest in the world by 2030. We also want to be recognised internationally for the way in which we have achieved this through intensive cooperation between industry, government and science ('the Triple Helix') in an innovative manner.

Being safest means no significant incidents (so-called Seveso III, or MARS incidents). Fortunately, these occur very rarely. Tracking the number and type of 'unusual occurrences' can then be an indicator of how well the safety risks are being controlled.

The success of this Triple Helix cooperation means building trust between parties. To avoid fragmentation, we want to know who is already doing what and together we want to make choices in topics and projects that will make the biggest difference in improving (process) safety.

Knowledge centre

The SDN Knowledge Centre wants to find and connect information on process safety!

Every company deserves access to the best information to be able to improve (process) safety in its organisation. To this end, the Knowledge Centre focuses on 3 elements:

  • Knowledge will be available in an accessible manner through the use of a Knowledge Base, SDN Technology Catalogue and an SDN Academy.
  • Applications coming to your organisation (Brzo, Government, Institute) through our projects and knowledge brokers
  • Create connections between users and experts via events and network groups: know what's going on!

Innovation centre

The Innovation Centre provides insight into the developments taking place in the Netherlands, brings research and innovation needs and partners together. The centre will initiate and coordinate new research programmes, improve and develop existing and new safety concepts, and help to find funding sources for these.

To this end, the Innovation Centre focuses on 3 elements:

  • Innovation: Inventory of innovation needs (market consultation)
  • Network: Initiating and accelerating ideas, proposals and projects in the triple helix
  • Implementation: carrying out projects and implementing innovations on the work floor

More information:

During the webinar, information on a number of platforms and tools was shared. These can be found below:

On the SDN website you can find all information about the SDN. On the website, you can find more information about the knowledge centre and the innovation centre. Here you can also find more information about the SDN Knowledge Centre and the SDN Innovation Centre. The Knowledge Centre consists of a number of components; we offer the collected knowledge about process safety via our various platforms:

In the SDN Knowledge Bank you will find references to knowledge about process safety, such as references to publications offered by the SDN or other parties, available relevant training courses, Frequently Asked Questions. In our SDN Technology Catalogue you will find the (commercial) offer of technologies and services in the field of process safety, which you can discuss with other end users. In addition, we are in the process of setting up The SDN Academy. With our training platform we want to explain (complex) process safety topics in a low-threshold manner to the user through short learning modules. We hope to launch this platform in September. Expert Networks on various process safety topics play a central role in collecting, developing and sharing knowledge on safety concepts. Would you like to stay informed about future SDN events?
